We are always looking for weekend escapes from Delhi. Working in corporate jobs always leaves us wanting to escape to the mountains. Sometimes we are able to do longer trips, but these weekend getaways are the need of the hour. On one of these weekend escapes, we planned on visiting Dhanaulti. Dhanaulti is about 1.5 hours from Mussoorie and is more peaceful, offbeat, and obviously less crowded than the latter.

Day 1
We started from Delhi in the morning at 10 am and were on our way to Dehradun. We had a friend traveling with us who was from Dehradun, and he took us to a place that serves some of the best Katlambe, a flakier and crispier version of bhature served with chole. They were really good. After that, we were back on the road.

Dhanaulti does not have much to explore. It has an Eco Park, but that's about it. Keep in mind that you go to Dhanaulti for the peaceful views, to unwind, and to get away from the crowds. We are not saying Mussoorie isn't worth visiting. The charm of the town and the twinkling city lights seen from Mussoorie should definitely be on your list. But this trip was all about exploring the quieter, more peaceful side of Uttarakhand, a completely different experience from what most people associate with the state.

Our stay was about 5 km from the Eco Park, accessible via a dirt road. The road to the hotel was your typical mountain road, a single lane with a valley on one side. The drive was challenging but exciting at the same time. We spent the rest of the day at the hotel, ordering room service, enjoying the crisp mountain air, and playing board and card games.
Day 2
We didn't have much planned for the next day, and rain was also in the forecast. We just went to the main Dhanaulti market, had some roasted bhuttas, and visited a café to enjoy some pahadon wali Maggi.

As soon as we got back from our little excursion, it started raining cats and dogs. We ordered hot pakodas and enjoyed them while watching the rain. We spent the evening chatting, playing games, had dinner, and called it a night.

The next day, we drove back from Dhanaulti to Delhi and got back to our regular lives. These trips may seem small and sometimes feel like they're over as soon as they begin, but at least for us, these little breaks help us recharge and go back to our lives with renewed energy.
